It amazed me that with all the options available on the windows platform (WinRar, 7-Zip), there had never been anything that could allow you to easily browse archives without extracting them. Great work, well worth the money. Thanks

Nice simple, clean interface. Appreciate the preferences options for where to save and, especially, how to set the mod-date of the extracted top-level folder. Also, the Finder-style quick-look is nice. In the list view, first thing I look for is a Date Modified coIumn — so, surprised and quite disappointed that it’s not available! Almost always, my first question about an archive is, Hmm… when did I last work on these files? There’s a “Test” feature, don’t know what it is and would have preferred to read the Help about it first, but there is no Help. An awesome upgrade would be to correctly handle Packages (like Numbers and OmniOutliner documents). If they could behave both like folders (unfold to view package contents) AND like documents (with Open, Open With and Quick Look available) that would be a nice case of having your cake and eating it too.
Supporting:) But its 2015 and this is still one UGLY looking App! More updated GUI please...
This app fills a definite void on the Mac. It’s come in handy on many occasions. There is one oversight however: If you quit the app while extracting an archive, it does not warn you. It just quits immediately. Please implemenent a confirmation before quitting if extraction operations are in progress.
Especially with large archives. Sometimes you may want to get a single or couple of files from a large archive or sometimes you may only want to check whether a file was in an archive or not. This application is a timesaver.
The app works great, it opens everything including pkg and internals. But design of the app does not fit well to app software, the color sheme is not good for eyes and it difficult to use the app for a long time. Thanks.
Simple user-friendly interface, without unnecessary details. Excellent app.
It views archives just fine… but what I really want is a winrar or 7zip for mac :( If you just want to view whats in an archive and possibly extract this is great. But if you want more I guess youll have to look elsewhere...
Does everything I could ever ask for in this type of utility. The features that are there are absolutely perfect and work flawlessly. It only has 1 downside, the app still runs when closing an archive. I think there is absolutely no reason for the app to stay open once your done using an archive. It causes the user to have to manually quit the app every time. This probably doesnt matter to a lot of people,, but for me its a deal breaker. Im back to using The Unarchiver for now, hoping that this will get looked into.
The only times Ive really wished for a UI to The Unarchiver have been when I was working with uncommon archive types, like a Windows EXE or some kind of BIN file. With only the Unarchiver, you just extracted and hoped something good would happen, but now with The Archive Browser, you can see what youre working with before attempting extraction. Also very useful, as advertised, is the ability to drag out individual files. Again, I find this most useful for non-standard archive types. The Unarchiver will continue to be my default application for some 99% of archive types, but this is a really great secondary tool that still supports all of the intelligent options somehow missing in the other standard archive managers, such as auto folder creation for archives [never/always/only-if-multiple-top-level-items]. A godsend.
Not bad, BUT theres no compress functionality, just extract! For 4 bucks? Alas! But Ive bought it and waiting for more functions! :)
I have been using "The Unarchiver" for a while now. It is a great piece of software. I always wanted it to have a GUI to browse archives though. Now that Ive found this, Im really happy with both programs.
Its great, but it needs the ability to add files into an archive without having to extract it.
Excellent GUI and performance, easy to use and support loads of file formats….
This does what it does quite well, supports darn near every format out there, and the price is right. Makes it super easy to extract just a few files from an archive. Perfect for restoring backups or updating web applications when you dont want to un-tar the whole thing. The new services option also makes this a drop-in replacement for any other un-archiving program. If youre looking for something that also handles compression and archive editing, take a look at BetterZip. Given that the latter is $20, this may be all you need or want.
Im a fan of The Unarchiver, but when I was looking for a tool to allow me to browse through archives nested within archives (actually .jar files within a .war), I ended up trying a few other apps before I got to this one; none of the alternatives met my needs. Then I found this little gem. I made this the default app for the various archive types I deal with, and now it "just works" to browse through the contents of my archives and drill into them, even into nested archives (i.e., I often want to confirm the contents of a txt file within a jar file thats either zipped or in a .war file, and this baby handles that exactly as Id expect)! I have over 200 apps from the App Store, and this is the first review Ive ever written a review for because Im *that* pleased with this product.
I had a 4.78GB zip file that had photos and video from an event that I shot and to my horror it wouldnt open after compression, instead giving me an "Error 1 - Operation not permitted" response. I tried Stuffit Expander and it said the .zip file was corrupt and then I turned to the App Store and found this great app. This totally saved my files. Thank you soooooooo much.
Works great for day to day snagging of files from within compressed archives. It also managed to open some damaged zip files (created with Mac Lions standard zip package) that no other utility (mac, zipeg, stuffit) could open. Great program!
Allows me to verify the contents of an archive without unarchiving it. This saves me a lot of panic and discomfort, because extracting a file to verify its contents just doesnt work.
Think Winzip, WinRAR, 7zip for Mac. Easily browse and quick view files inside your compressed archive files. Hands down the best archive software for Mac, ever since I switched to Mac from Windows/Linux I missed being able to work with ZIP files like this.
